APPROACH TO TEACHING & LEARNING
Respect, responsibility and resilience
We believe good behaviour underpins good learning and we encourage children to make the right choices about their learning and their lifestyle.
It takes a village to raise a child
We involve parents every step of the way in their child’s educational journey and encourage participation and dialogue via a weekly newsletter, weekly drop in sessions, monthly parent workshops, a valuable parent volunteer network, community events and regular opportunities to be involved and heard. Our door is always open.
Each child has their individual needs
We ensure that each child progresses at their level through differentiation, intervention and support programs, involving children and parents in feedback and target setting, regular assessment opportunities, plus challenge and stretch for our more able learners. We foster an optimal learning environment with small class sizes, opportunities for independent, peer and group work and work that is pitched at the right level and pace for each child no matter their ability or background.
Rich & balanced program of study
We offer a structured yet balanced timetable, with core subjects such as Numeracy & Literacy in the morning and more inquiry based learning with the International Primary Curriculum in the afternoons.
Partners in learning
We are committed to growth and improvement. We aim to adapt to the needs of each new pupil and family, as well as keeping up with changes and trends in global education. We actively seek the view of all stakeholders in developing our small school and run yearly evaluations for pupils, parents and staff. Our annual school development plan keeps our school moving forward.
Building a collaborative learning environment
We know good teaching staff are critical to the success of our school and the success of our pupils. We do our upmost to provide them with the support and training to support their learning journey. We love peer planning, action based research in the form of PLCs and run in house staff development sessions each month.
An international school with 40 nationalities requires adaptable curriculum that supports diverse needs and interests. At Discovery Mind Primary School, we seamlessly integrate British and International Primary Curricula with an enhanced, tailor-made and comprehensive Putonghua programme and well-suited to the diverse needs of our international student body. Our curriculum is forward thinking and creative with an emphasis on core facts, life skills and human values. We support the transition of our children, be that when students join us from our two Kindergartens, move between campuses, onwards from Year 6 to secondary schools or relocate overseas, with an emphasis social and emotional learning and through our strong school culture which fosters respect, responsibility and resilience.
